Our Team

Surprised by Hope values sustainability and that means training national facilitators to assume the work of the founder. We use a certification program to develop these facilitators so that their comprehension of three main topics—Bible, business, and instruction methods—exceeds a simple repetition of the business notes. Whenever possible, these facilitators work together with the founder to apply what they are learning as facilitators and as business people.

Pastor Ephantus Njuguna
Ephantus is a pastor, farmer, and shop keeper. He came to coastal Kenya as a youth and learned key cutting as his trade. As a pastor, Ephantus leads Mountain of Glory Church in Marikebuni, Kenya. He plants and harvests a variety of crops on church land and in so doing built the permanent structure for this church. He also runs a small shop near the small town center.

Pastor George Owak
George is a pastor, social worker, businessman, and farmer. As a pastor, George is the regional overseer for Uganda Assemblies of God churches in a region just outside Gulu, Uganda. George also has experience as a church planter, and is a conference speaker. As a social worker, George mobilizes the community and facilitates religious and civil society awareness activities. He also operates both fumigation and bee keeping businesses.

Pastor Augustine Ocho

As a pastor, Augustine is part of the leadership team at Calvary Chapel Kasega in Uganda. When not serving in ministry, Augustine farms and mentors the youth in farming planning and management as well.

Pastor Moses Sematimba Moses is a pastor and businessman, and is new to Surprised by Hope facilitation. As a pastor, Moses leads Christ International Church in Kamuli, Uganda. He is actively engaged in supporting smaller, more rural churches outside Kamuli town. His many small business ventures flow with the varying seasons and holidays.

While Alex’s time is filled with his own business ventures, he continues to be a reliable coordinator and assistant to the founder responding favorably whenever called upon.
